This is former colliery country and the housing is a mix of pre-1919 miners' terraces in Bagthorpe and New Westwood, inter-war and post-war semis strung along Nottingham Road, and later private infill through Selston and Underwood. Two things make installations here different from the flatter towns nearby. The first is gradient: Cordy Lane and the approaches around Pye Hill Road are steep enough that condensate fall genuinely determines where a boiler can go. The second is access — Main Road in Jacksdale is on-street parking only and Westwood Road narrows in places, so a delivery that would be trivial in Mansfield needs planning. Both are the sort of thing that turns a one-day job into two if nobody looked first.

What makes a Selston & Brinsley installation different

  • Gradients and condensate fall

On the sloping plots along Cordy Lane and towards Pye Hill Road the obvious external condensate route frequently has nowhere to drain to. That forces an internal run to a waste pipe or a purpose-dug soakaway, and it can decide which room the appliance goes in. We work it out at survey because retrofitting a fix in February is nobody's idea of a good time.

  • Pre-1919 miners' terraces

Narrow frontages, party walls close together and a good number still on back boilers behind the front-room fire. Removing one means making good the opening, running new gas, and finding a flue terminal that clears the boundary — none of it hard, all of it slower than a straight swap.

  • Access on Main Road and Westwood Road

On-street parking through Jacksdale and narrow sections of Westwood Road mean van positioning and material drops have to be thought about in advance. We plan where the vehicle sits so pathways stay clear and the neighbours are not blocked in for a day.

Jobs we do most often in Selston & Brinsley

  • Selston — combi conversion off Nottingham Road

Inter-war semi with an open-vented boiler and cylinder, replaced with a high-efficiency A-rated combi and smart controls. Cylinder and tanks removed, system flushed before commissioning.

  • Bagthorpe — back boiler removal in a miners' terrace

Pre-1919 property, back boiler and fire taken out, opening made good and the new appliance sited in the kitchen with a fresh gas run and a boundary-clearing flue terminal.

  • Cordy Lane — relocation for condensate

Steep plot where the existing position offered no condensate fall. Boiler moved to the utility with an internal condensate run to the kitchen waste and the flue rerouted to suit.

Boiler installation in Selston & Brinsley — your questions

Which villages do you actually cover?

Selston, Brinsley, Underwood, Jacksdale, Westwood, Bagthorpe and New Westwood — the whole NG16 cluster — plus Eastwood, Pinxton and Somercotes nearby. No travel charge on any of them.

Will the slope of my plot cause a problem?

Not a problem, but it does need planning. Gradients along Cordy Lane and around Pye Hill Road often leave no external fall for the condensate pipe, which can decide which room the boiler goes in. We identify the route at the survey rather than on the morning.

How much is a new boiler in Selston or Brinsley?

From £1,795 for a straightforward swap. Back boiler removals in the older miners' terraces and open-vented conversions along the B600 typically run £2,400 to £3,500 as one fixed written price.

Do you deal with the hard water round here?

Yes. Severn Trent water in this area is moderately hard and it scales a combi's plate heat exchanger over a few years, which is what weakens the hot water. We fit scale protection alongside the magnetic filter on new installations as standard.
