Central heating pipework and radiator installation

Central heating and radiator installation in Mansfield

New systems, radiator upgrades, conversions and controls — designed around the property rather than a standard package.

Not every heating problem is the boiler. Undersized radiators, a system that was never balanced, microbore pipework struggling to carry the flow, or controls that give you one temperature for the whole house — all of them leave rooms cold while the boiler runs perfectly. We install and upgrade complete heating systems, replace individual radiators, convert gravity systems to fully pumped, and fit modern controls that actually let you heat the rooms you are in.

  • Full central heating installation and system design
  • Radiator replacement, relocation and additional circuits
  • Gravity to fully pumped and open-vented to sealed conversions
  • Smart controls, TRVs and proper system balancing

RPH Home Services did a great job. I can’t fault Dean and his team. We had a new boiler fitted. Highly recommended. Fitted the boiler on a Saturday as they were busy the following week.

If you are looking for anybody to carry out boiler installation, servicing or central heating work then look no further. RPH were competitive, punctual, professional, clean and tidy. Nothing was rushed and they went to great effort to not only complete our swap from a traditional to a combi boiler, but to do it in a way that made the swap look as good as possible too. Although we got several quotes, they left us feeling confident we made the right decision.

I was very impressed with David from the day he came to give me a quote. He checked the location of gas pipes to ascertain the complexity of the job — two previous companies had not even mentioned this. On fitting day David and two colleagues arrived at the time advised. They kept me informed of each task and left my property clean and tidy.

  • Customer rating 10/10

Needed my old boiler and F&E system replacing. David visited and we agreed a new location for the boiler and an extra radiator. On the day of installation David, Dean and crew were very professional, ensuring all carpets and flooring were protected. Very pleased with the work undertaken.

Where heating systems actually go wrong

  • Radiators sized by habit

Fitting the same size radiator that was there before ignores insulation, glazing and extensions added since. We calculate heat loss room by room instead of matching what came off the wall.

  • Systems never balanced

A system that has never been balanced sends most of its flow to the nearest radiators. The far end of the circuit stays lukewarm no matter how high you set the boiler.

  • Microbore struggling to keep up

Eight and ten millimetre pipework installed in the 1970s and 80s restricts flow and clogs quickly. Sometimes the fix is a flush, sometimes it is re-piping the affected legs.

  • One thermostat for the whole house

A single stat in the hall means the rest of the house is guessed at. Zoning or smart TRVs let you heat the rooms in use, which is where the real saving is.

New central heating systems

For a full installation we calculate heat loss for every room, size the radiators and the boiler to match, and design the pipework to deliver the flow that design needs. That is more work upfront than fitting a standard package, and it is the difference between a system that warms the house evenly and one that runs hard and still leaves the back bedroom cold.

  • Room-by-room heat loss calculation
  • Boiler and radiator sizing based on that calculation, not on what was there before
  • Pipework designed for the flow rate the system needs
  • Full commissioning, balancing and handover

Radiator work

Replacing, moving or adding radiators is some of the most common work we do, and it is often the cheapest way to fix a cold room. Modern convector radiators put out considerably more heat for the same wall space than the single panels they replace.

  • Like-for-like replacement and upgrades to higher-output convectors
  • Relocating radiators around kitchen and bathroom refits
  • Adding radiators to extensions and converted spaces
  • Vertical and designer radiators where wall space is tight
  • Thermostatic valves fitted and the system rebalanced afterwards

Controls and smart heating

Boiler Plus regulations already require a control upgrade with every new boiler, so the question is which one rather than whether. Smart controls earn their keep in houses that are empty during the day or occupied unpredictably — less so in a home that runs to a fixed schedule, and we will say so.

  • Smart thermostats including Hive, which we include free on most installations
  • Weather and load compensation for genuine efficiency gains
  • Zoning for upstairs and downstairs, or for a home office
  • Thermostatic radiator valves throughout

Frequently asked questions

How much does a new central heating system cost?

A full system for a typical three-bedroom house — boiler, radiators, pipework and controls — generally runs £4,000 to £6,500 depending on radiator count and whether the pipework can be reused. Individual radiator replacements start at around £180 fitted. Every job is quoted as one fixed written price after a survey.

Why is one room always cold when the rest are fine?

Usually one of three things: the radiator is undersized for the room, the system has never been balanced so that circuit is starved of flow, or a valve has seized. All three are diagnosable in a short visit and none of them needs a new boiler.

Can you add a radiator to an extension?

Yes, provided the existing boiler has the capacity for the extra load — which we check rather than assume. If it does not, we will tell you before doing the work rather than leaving you with a system that cannot keep up.

Do I need to replace all my radiators with a new boiler?

Usually not. Existing radiators are normally fine if they are sound and correctly sized, and a flush plus rebalancing gets far more out of them than people expect. We would only recommend replacing ones that are undersized, corroded, or blocked beyond recovery.

What is the difference between balancing and power flushing?

Balancing adjusts the valves so each radiator gets its designed share of the flow — it is an adjustment, and it is included when we commission a system. Power flushing physically removes sludge from inside the system. A system can need one, both, or neither.
