Power flushing and system cleaning in Mansfield & Nottinghamshire
Clearing the sludge that kills heat exchangers, wastes gas and leaves radiators cold at the bottom.
Every sealed heating system slowly fills with magnetite — black iron oxide sludge produced as steel radiators corrode from the inside. It settles in the bottom of radiators, blocks narrow heat exchanger passages, and makes the pump work harder to move less water. A power flush clears it. On a new installation it is not optional: fitting a boiler onto a dirty system will block the heat exchanger within a couple of winters and void the manufacturer warranty.
- Magnacleanse and full chemical power flushing
- Restores circulation and radiator surface temperature
- Protects your boiler warranty on a new installation
- Magnetic filter fitted as standard afterwards

Customer reviews

Customer rating 10/10
RPH Home Services did a great job. I can’t fault Dean and his team. We had a new boiler fitted. Highly recommended. Fitted the boiler on a Saturday as they were busy the following week.
Customer rating 10/10
If you are looking for anybody to carry out boiler installation, servicing or central heating work then look no further. RPH were competitive, punctual, professional, clean and tidy. Nothing was rushed and they went to great effort to not only complete our swap from a traditional to a combi boiler, but to do it in a way that made the swap look as good as possible too. Although we got several quotes, they left us feeling confident we made the right decision.
Customer rating 10/10
I was very impressed with David from the day he came to give me a quote. He checked the location of gas pipes to ascertain the complexity of the job — two previous companies had not even mentioned this. On fitting day David and two colleagues arrived at the time advised. They kept me informed of each task and left my property clean and tidy.
Customer rating 10/10
Needed my old boiler and F&E system replacing. David visited and we agreed a new location for the boiler and an extra radiator. On the day of installation David, Dean and crew were very professional, ensuring all carpets and flooring were protected. Very pleased with the work undertaken.

How to tell your system needs flushing
Cold at the bottom, warm at the top
The classic symptom. Sludge settles by gravity, so the bottom third of a radiator stops heating while the top stays hot. Air does the opposite — cold at the top means bleeding, not flushing.
Banging or kettling on start-up
Deposits on the heat exchanger create hot spots that boil water locally. That knocking sound is the boiler being damaged, not just being noisy.
Some radiators never get warm
Especially the ones furthest from the pump. Restricted flow means the water takes the path of least resistance and starves the rest of the circuit.
Black water when you bleed
Clear or slightly cloudy water is normal. Black water is magnetite in suspension, and it means there is far more of it sitting where you cannot see it.
What we actually do
A proper flush is a machine connected to the system, not a bucket of chemical poured into the feed tank. We use a Magnacleanse unit with powerful magnets that trap the magnetite as it is dislodged, rather than pushing it round the circuit and into the new boiler.
- System dosed with a cleaner and circulated to break down deposits
- Magnacleanse magnets capture magnetite as it is released
- Each radiator agitated and flushed individually
- System refilled, dosed with corrosion inhibitor and rebalanced
- Magnetic filter fitted to catch what forms in future

Flush or chemical clean?
Not every system needs the full treatment, and we will tell you which yours needs rather than defaulting to the more expensive one. A chemical clean circulated over a few hours is often enough on a system that is dirty but not badly blocked.
- Chemical clean — lightly contaminated systems, usually added to an installation
- Full power flush — visible sludge, cold spots, or a system over about fifteen years old
- Neither — some systems genuinely do not need it, and we will say so

Why it matters on a new boiler
Modern condensing boilers have far narrower heat exchanger waterways than the cast-iron units they replace. That efficiency is exactly what makes them intolerant of debris. Manufacturers know this, which is why cleaning the system to BS 7593 is a warranty condition on virtually every appliance we fit — and why a cheap installation quote that omits the flush is not actually cheaper.
