How Much Does a New Boiler Cost in 2026? Real Prices, Not Estimates
What a new boiler actually costs in Nottinghamshire in 2026 — combi, system and regular, plus the extras that inflate quotes and how to spot them.

Ask three installers what a new boiler costs and you will get three answers, all of them vague. Here is what the work actually costs, itemised, based on the jobs we quote every week across Nottinghamshire.
The short version
| Job | Typical price | Time on site |
|---|---|---|
| Like-for-like combi swap | £1,795 – £2,400 | 4–6 hours |
| Back boiler removal to combi | £2,400 – £3,200 | 1–2 days |
| Open-vented to sealed combi conversion | £2,400 – £3,500 | 1–2 days |
| System boiler with unvented cylinder | £3,000 – £4,500 | 2 days |
Those are fitted prices including the boiler. For comparison, British Gas quotes typically start around £2,500 for the job at the top of that table.
What changes the price
Boiler output and brand. A 24kW combi for a two-bedroom flat costs meaningfully less than a 35kW unit for a four-bedroom house with two bathrooms. Within the same output, a Worcester Bosch or Vaillant sits above an Ideal or Glow-worm — you are paying for build quality and warranty length.
Whether the system type changes. A straight swap — old combi off the wall, new combi on — is the cheapest job there is. The moment a cylinder and loft tanks come out, or the boiler moves to a different room, you are adding pipework, making good, and often a day of labour.
Where the boiler goes. Relocating from a bedroom cupboard to the kitchen means a new gas run, a new flue, and new heating and hot-water pipework. It is often the right call for the long term, but it is not a small addition.
The condition of the existing system. If the radiators are full of magnetite sludge, a new boiler fitted onto it will block its heat exchanger within a couple of years. A chemical flush might add £150; a full Magnacleanse power flush more. Skipping it is a false economy and most manufacturer warranties require it.
The extras that should already be included
This is where quotes diverge most, and where you should push back. A properly specified quote includes:
- Removal and disposal of the old boiler — and the cylinder and tanks on a conversion
- A magnetic system filter (Adey, Fernox or similar)
- A system flush appropriate to the condition of the pipework
- A room thermostat — Boiler Plus regulations require a control upgrade on every installation anyway
- Flue, condensate routing and any gas pipe upgrade needed to meet the boiler’s gas rate
- Commissioning, the Gas Safe certificate and the Benchmark logbook
- Building Regulations notification to your local authority
- Warranty registration with the manufacturer
If a quote is £300 cheaper and quietly excludes four of those, it is not cheaper.
Boiler Plus — the bit installers skip explaining
Since 2018, every gas boiler installation in England has had to meet the Boiler Plus standard. In practice that means the boiler must be at least 92% efficient and the installation must include time and temperature controls, plus one of: weather compensation, load compensation, flue gas heat recovery, or smart controls with automation and optimisation.
The practical upshot is that a “boiler only, no controls” quote is not a compliant installation. If someone offers you one, they are either not notifying the work or they are cutting a corner you will inherit.
What we include at £1,795
Our installations start at £1,795 fully fitted, and that price includes the boiler, the fitting, removal of the old unit, the magnetic filter, the flush, a free Hive smart thermostat, the Gas Safe certificate, Building Regulations notification, warranty registration and a free service at 12 months. It is a fixed written price — what we quote is what you pay.
If you want a genuine number for your house rather than a range from an article, request a free survey or call us. We will tell you honestly if your existing boiler has years left in it, too.
Financing it
Most people replacing a boiler are doing it because the old one failed, which is rarely a convenient moment financially. We accept bank transfer, credit card and cheque, and we offer finance so the cost can be spread. Ask about it when you get the quote rather than after — it sometimes changes which boiler makes sense.
